Fish, nor Foul!
Ganesh, a poor fisherman, married young Valki. One day, Valki inadvertently burnt down their whole week’s firewood. Ganesh fumed. His mother beat Valki.
Valki walked into the sea, and was lost forever.
Fishing got harder, rendering Ganesh in peril of losing his boat to the moneylender. One day in treacherous seas, a porpoise appeared pushing Ganesh’s boat to safety. Then Ganesh found Valki’s gold mangalsutra in his fishing nets. That could clear his debts.
Ganesh cried regretfully.
A legend arose in the village that women who left this life lived undersea; continuing to look out for those they’d once loved.
