A 100-word story for Free Writing Fridays by Erica Drayton.
Mynah, uncaged
Her name was Mynah, after a common bird in India.
The story goes, Mynah’s mother had a pet mynah growing up. The story goes that one day the mynah escaped. Unable to fly too far away, it was found in a nearby tree and promptly caged again. After that the mynah refused all food and lived only a few days. Mynah’s mother would tell that story wistfully, wondering aloud if she should have simply let the bird go. Those listening sympathized and countered, “But if you let her go, what would you have left?”
They were all thinking of Mynah.

I’m a little worried about Mynah now.
All the more intriguing to imagine it as a wider storyline ... 'gilded cage' perhaps. Looking forward to more
