Samaroo
Samaroo came to work for my newly married mother in Simla*. He’d come straight from his village, unfamiliar with city ways.
One evening friends came calling. When asked to bring them water, Samaroo brought out glasses to hand to them. Apologetic, my mother instructed him to bring back the water, more formally, on a tray.
Next thing, my mother saw Samaroo frozen at the door, trying to balance the tray. He’d poured the glasses of water directly onto it!
Samaroo’s fame spread, but real notoriety arrived when he eloped with the girl-servant next door, never to be heard from again.

Hope that little tale made you laugh. It’s a true story. The memory of my mother recounting stories of Samaroo’s escapades always makes me laugh out loud.
I am thrilled to report that a new short story of mine (The "Love Muscle") was published in July 2024, in the “Best of the Best” 2024 Literary Review anthology of the California Writers Club.
I’ll share the story in an upcoming post in September.
Great story, you inspire me. Congratulations also
So funny and congrats!
