You've beautifully captured the horrifying essence of not just how we often arrive at the wrong conclusions through a series of seemingly logical decisions, but more importantly how our simplistic reasoning causes widespread suffering that could so easily have been avoided. I would argue that this very aspect of human reasoning is at the core of what most ails us in this modern world.

Thanks so much Mads. I agree with you - the specifics have changed but some of our tendencies haven’t. Appreciate your careful reading.

A profound and succinct parable of short-sighted, economic-based family planning. Not to mention the moral aspect. Well done, as always, Reena.

Thank you dear Carolyn for reading and for your lovely comment. Such blind adherence is usually all about tribal fealty. We'd rather be wrong and follow untruths than go against what the tribe prescrbes. No amount of modernization will cure us fully of that need...

Jarring. Facts are merely boulders to be avoided on the path of our beliefs.

Yes so we are. Our modernism has brought us far but this commitment to tribal beliefs in face of the truth still stands.
