Thought provoking and I really feel for Shaili.

I really was struck by how you tell so much about her but without ever addressing her directly, alway in the context of the men that impact on her life. And in that there is so much said toward the imbalance that she suffers, the men that decide her world and life.

Not to distract from the important message of your piece here. But i do very much find your skill to me so impressive, achieving so much in so few words.

Thanks David. I appreciate your support so much.

Yes indeed this was an attempt to show (in that time and place) the degree to which her fate is controlled by men; who btw themselves are ruled by unseen demons. Multiple layers of tragedies. And ofc the overarching message of conducting our anger differently, nonviolence, etc.

Thank you also for the restack.

I want to know if Shaili's husband understood and changed his ways. Sequel pleassssseee. Beautifully told in minimal words.

I do too 😀

From what I can tell, Shaili walked out, husband went into deep therapy with Gabor Mate and then began work on his own trauma. Took him time and it was a brave step; but Shaili didn’t wait around for this recovery. Both ended well but on different paths, which is ok. That’s my optimist take. People are brave, but recognition of the issue is the first claim to courage….

Thank you so much Lalitha. Your comments always encourage me ❤️❤️❤️

If you hit the child the child learns that violence is the answer. Fearing the parent does not equal respect. Beautiful piece and commentary.

Yes this is quite simple, and yet so very deeply meaningful. I appreciate how the father kept it straightforward in his own way - it is indeed a sad reflection of so much that goes on in our world.

Very thought-provoking story. I guess only self-reflection and willingness to learn can break the cycle of violence. I hope the young man also did the same but based on what we see happening around the world, people, in general, seem to be more angry. We see protests and wars breaking out in so many places. Violence is not the answer, we have so much of written, oral and video history to prove that it leads to more harm than good But still, there is no lack of it.
