Lovely Beauty “Saloon”
I’d frequent Lovely Beauty “Saloon” (sic) whenever I visited my mother in India. For various vanity rituals — eyebrow threading, hair coloring, etc. My mother’s patronage earned me special treatment.
Lovely, the owner, ran it superbly. The salon was in a shopping strip, not fancy but competent, convenient.
One day I noticed Lovely had a black left eye. Next time she told me she’d divorced her husband.
Few months later, she married Kumar, the scrawny hairstylist she employed. Six months later the shop was renamed: Kumar’s Lovely Salon.
Lovely was pregnant. This time her black eye was on the right side.

You really need to find a place that publishes micro fiction and submit. I think this one is a true winner that is likely to get published.
Oh. That last line is so unexpected... So poignant.
